Two chairs were cast offs- left curbside in our neighborhood.
The only thing wrong with them was some needed tightening of the screws.
We sanded them, painted them black and I made seat cushions/pillows from fabric & painter's canvas-
added some strokes in black and tahdah-
daughter has a new set of chairs for her guests!

Our son and DIL were given a set of directors chairs
that DH repainted and I sewed/painted new seats and backs for them.
It was an unusual but fun Christmas project!
